Paintings
Rimas Bičiūnas’s paintings are independent and tend toward dominance. They possess their own autonomous space, where the artist “plays” by his own set of rules. One of those rules is the impression of lightness.
In his work, Bičiūnas strives to create the illusion that his paintings were made in a single session, a single sitting, though in reality, that is never enough. Usually, it takes not just a few, but dozens…
Rimas Bičiūnas admires artists who are true masters of color. He has always been fascinated by their ability to detach from reality and create their own. In Bičiūnas’s work, color holds an exceptionally important place. The power of music lies in the variety of sounds, while the strength of a painting lies in its range of colors. According to the artist, lines and colors can create a melody for us.
During his studies, Bičiūnas was drawn to Fauvism and Expressionism. He studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, which at the time was considered one of the most progressive art schools in the former Soviet Union.
